This November there will be two seats up for election on the Sherwood Forest Estates Fire District Board. Below are short bios of the three candidates running for these seats. We encourage all neighbors registered to vote in the Sherwood Fire District to read these statements from the candidates and vote on election day or by early ballot.
Shari Diefenderfer
I am married and my husband and I have 5 children and 13 grandchildren between the 2 of us.
I have worked in the aerospace industry, medical industry, as an IT technician and as an administration assistant. I am currently not working because my husband is retired and we travel throughout the year.
My father-in-law helped to build the 1st building for the fire department, helped to start it and was a volunteer until his health made it impossible for him to continue.
My mother-in-law helped to start the auxiliary so they could raise money to fund the department.
I would like the opportunity to continue my family’s legacy and serve my community the way my they did.
My vision for the fire department is to ensure that the department’s need’s are met according policies, and procedures.
Bruce Speirs
I am a property owner in both Sherwood Forest Estates and Mountain Rose Ranch Estates and live full time in the Sherwood Forest Fire District. I am offering my 35 years of public safety and emergency management experience to serve on our Fire Board. I fully embrace the concept that we are ‘one community.’ We must continue our efforts of coordination and collaboration – all focused on making our Fire District the best we can, and responsive to our expanding communities’ needs. Our Fire District is at a critical point in its planning efforts and will soon be making long lasting decisions such as enhancing its Emergency Medical Services, updating its facility, and upgrading its fire suppression capabilities.
Our dedicated Fire Chief, volunteer firefighters and EMTs, as well as our many support volunteers, work tirelessly toward the goal of protecting our homes and properties from fire, and providing our families and neighbors with emergency medical care when needed. With extensive experience and certificates in all areas of emergency management, from administration and budgeting to policy development and operations, I believe I can provide valuable insight as a member of the Fire Board. I also have direct experience having volunteered on many other Boards. Our fire station is also the hub of our community. It provides a friendly location for important meetings, fund-raisers, and social get-togethers and should continue to provide that function. I am ready and willing to serve on the Sherwood Forest Fire Board and I ask for your vote.
Susan Hamilton
My name is Susan Hamilton and as a member of the Sherwood Forest Estates Fire Department Board for the last 6 years I have had the opportunity to serve as your treasurer. I worked to keep your property taxes at the 2.88% interest rate that we have been luckily maintaining for several years. I also work with the budget committee to ensure that every dollar that you give the fire department is used to benefit our community.
I am a year-round resident as I am here to attend all board and budget meetings as well as special meetings. I am a member of the fire department auxiliary, have helped with community clean-up, worked closely with the Sherwood Forest POA on all their activities, I am one of the captains of our neighborhood watch program, helped with the Firewise program and have also taken on coordinating the volunteers for the green waste disposal pit that helps our community as well as our neighbors.
I’m asking for your vote for me to continue to serve you and our mountain community.
This is Susan Hamilton and I approve this message.
