Ponderosa and Sherwood Fire Departments encourage you to rake, prune and gather debris from your property and deposit it at Moonset Pit. This is an important step in reducing the risk of wildfire damage to your home.
If permission is granted from the Forest Service and last year’s pile is burnt, then Moonset Pit will be open during the summer months. Check back later to find the exact dates and times. When Moonset Pit is open, community volunteers staff the pit to ensure access and prevent disposal of unauthorized materials.
- Deposit only natural, woody debris (tree limbs and pine needles)
- No bagged material, garbage, lumber or other building materials
Moonset Pit is a cinder pit located on the Kaibab National Forest a mile west of Parks. The pit is on the north side of Old Route 66, on a dirt road just east of Spitz Springs Road.
